CDCP F.A.Q.

  • What is CDCP?
    • It is the Canadian Dental Care Plan that is offered by the federal government across Canada. It’s purpose is to help reduce the financial impact on patients when receiving dental care.

  • How does it work?
    • Eligibility details can be found on the Government of Canada website. You must file your income tax, household income has to be less than $90,000, and you cannot have any dental insurance. Based on your income tax, the government will subsidize a set percentage. You must re-apply each year.

  • I applied and it says I have 100% coverage. Is my dental treatment free?
    • Unfortunately no. The CDCP fee guide is applied all across Canada, but dental fees are provincially regulated. That means even though the federal government says they will cover 100%, their 100% fee is lower than the fee set by the Ontario government. Therefore there will always be some out of pocket expense. CDCP is a subsidy program, not a free dental care program as advertised by the government.

  • I received my CDCP card in the mail. Can I see a dentist right away?
    • Before making an appointment, make sure you check the activation date provided with your CDCP information. Treatment cannot be done before the start date otherwise your claim will not be accepted by the government.

  • What treatment is covered?
    • CDCP limits the number of times you can claim certain dental procedures. Details regarding your specific treatment needs can be discussed with staff. However, cleaning can only be done annually, and emergency dental exams can be done any time.
